Now retired (and loving it), Hilary has over 20 years experience working with GIS in both the public and private sector. Her geospatial and planning work has included transportation, environmental, urban planning, and community development. She has further provided a variety of leadership and management opportunities on a wide range of projects. She is keenly interested in the use of GIS by the public and community-based organizations for addressing the complex information needs associated with solving regional problems and creating consensus-driven solutions. She is more than thrilled that young folks are interested and involved in URISA! Hilary is the Past President of URISA, and is a founding mother of the GIS Leadership Academy (formerly the URISA Leadership Academy). She also has served on URISA’s Program Committee and as a Steering Committee member for URISA’s then newly-formed Vanguard Cabinet. She has received a number of URISA awards including Leadership, Service, the Barbara A. Hirsch Special Service Award, and the prestigious Horwood Distinguished Service Award. She was a member of the founding cohort of Certified GIS Professionals (GISP), a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP), a member of the Executive Committee of APA’s Transportation Planning Division, and a Board Member on TRB ABJ60 Committee on Geographic Information Science & Applications.
