When Hurricane Matthew roiled along the eastern Florida coast in October, 2016, it was all hands on deck in the cities of Jacksonville and St. Augustine. Although the storm did not come ashore in Florida, high winds and an approximately ten foot high storm surge caused major flooding and extensive damage to transportation infrastructure.  When Hurricane Irma hit in 2017, the City of Jacksonville and St. Augustine were able to incorporate lessons learned from Hurricane Matthew in their response.  Attend this session and hear about how city and county governments relied on GIS data and analytics to facilitate their response and recovery efforts.

Attendance at this session will offer: 1.0 AICP credits

  • GIS Hurricane Systems – The Response to “Irma"
Stephen Herczeg, GISP, GIS Manager, City of Jacksonville, ITD/JaxGIS, Jacksonville, FL
  • Surviving Hurricane Matthew’s impact is one thing… responding to an emergency event using a GIS-Centric Platform and high-speed asset management decision making is another
Rocky Agbunag, MSCIS, GISP, Information Services Manager, St. Johns County, Saint Augustine, FL
